D’ La Santa: An Authentic Family Experience
Our Snapshot | A true labor of love. The essence of a tight-knit family, bound together through sharing a meal, journeying in life together and earnestly working to create something together. Built by teamwork, faith and heart. A rustic, and authentic experience that makes you feel like you’re sitting in the Villasenor home for dinner. Flavorful and honest ingredients served with a home-y, comforting, approachable atmosphere. A distinct taste that has been passed down through multiple generations.
On the north side of Capitol Hill, you will find a small cluster of restaurants and a bar or two. What you cannot miss are the cozy, whimsical lanterns welcoming you to D’ La Santa. There is a consistent buzz of laughter and conversation outside - drawing in friends, families, loved ones on any given night. The essence of this experience is rooted in family, hospitality and culture.
We’ve visited D’ La Santa on a variety of occasions but sitting down with the family behind it all, made our experience with them that much more meaningful. Given this was a family affair, we had the honor to sit down with Angelica Villasenor, D’ La Santa owner, her daughters, husband, mother and son-in-law to hear everyone’s story and point of view.
To be clear, every little detail was thought out and hand-selected by members of the family. Everything on the menu are recipes that have been passed down through generations and, man oh man, can you taste it.
With their zest for true Mexican culture and deep commitment to family, Angelica and her family launched D’ La Santa. You can see throughout the space hints of Villasenor’s childhood come to life from the out-stretching, driftwood tree in the middle of the dining room (yes, we will get to this), all the way to their terra cotta tableware.
